Paul “JJ” Johnson, Jr.
Paul “JJ” Johnson, Jr., is a founding partner of Sloane & Johnson, PLLC. JJ represents real estate developers, investors, financial institutions and businesses in a wide range of commercial transactions, real estate and land use matters. His goal is to provide high quality, cost-effective representation, while also helping to facilitate a successful transaction for his clients. He views his role to be a “deal maker”, rather than a “deal breaker”.
JJ has extensive experience representing commercial and residential developers through all phases of the development process. He has represented clients in the acquisition, leasing, development and sale of retail shopping centers and NNN properties involving tenants such as Whole Foods, Publix Super Markets, LA Fitness, Hobby Lobby, McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Fifth Third Bank, JP Morgan Chase, 7-Eleven, and Starbucks. JJ has served as transactional and land use counsel for the redevelopment of a regional mall consisting of over 1,000,000 square feet of space. Additionally, he has represented national and local homebuilders, condominium developers and apartment developers in the acquisition, development and sale of residential properties, and has represented institutional and private lenders in commercial and private loans secured by real and intangible property.
As land use counsel, JJ has obtained entitlements for an approximately 100,000 square foot urban in-fill redevelopment and for the redevelopment of a large scale Development of Regional Impact, among other projects.
Prior to co-founding the firm, JJ practiced at two of the largest firms in the nation, gaining valuable experience in a variety of sophisticated transactions. JJ also served as general counsel and was an equity partner in a retail development company where he was responsible for all legal work related to the development of over 500,000 square feet of retail space. This experience provides him valuable insight into the business aspects of a successful development.
